APP's thats all everyone is talking about! What does this have to do with musicians?

With the continuing rise of smartphones and applications as a musician this is definately something that you should take interest in. With over thousands of apps on the market from Apple, Android, Blackberry and beyond there is so much out there can benefit a musician. Let me ask this question:

Has this situation ever happened to you?

You out at a gig or playing for an event and you "the guitar player" has forgotten your most important asset: Your tuner! Well, thinking that this is going to be a big problem two options roll through your mind:

1) Use your ear to tune your guitar

-Keep in mind that this is not a bad idea however sometimes you may not be as accurate with your ear and your guitar maybe off when you are playing.

2) Use your mobile phone to tune your guitar
-You think this is better solution and it proves to be more accurate however you have no idea which app to use or if any are actually worthwhile.

Today, in this post we are going to look at several apps that can help guitar players tune their guitars while on the road. We have scowered the web to find the best for you! This is a follow up to the post which you can check out: How to Tune Your Guitar For Beginners

App # 1: Guitar Tuner By Alvin Yu (Availble for Android, Iphone Free)

This is a free app and contains the basics to tune your guitar. This is an app for any Apple phone.
I would highly recommend that you use headphones.

App # 2: iStrobosoft (Cost: $9.99 at iTunes Store)

This one is unlike the free one above because even though this as a hefty price tag attached it's shows that it's the real deal. The thing I like about this is that it really takes the time to show you if you are going the right or wrong way in your tuning. It will show you if you are on the money or not. This even has the capabilities of letting you connect with an iPhone or iTouch adaptor and directly tune it. That sounds great right? It gets better...because it even auto transposes notes for you. Think of the endless possibilities with this.

App # 3: Cleartune (Cost: $3.99 at iTunes Store) (Also availible for Android)

This one is cheaper and after seeing the comparision with a regular guitar tuner you can't go wrong with this either. This particular one is a chromatic tuner just like the ones we see at our regular music store. This one is one that you can connect directly to the guitar with as well. It has receive many different reviews on this and I would say that it's highly ranked up there.

App # 4 gStrings (Free for Android)

Another great guitar tuner app this time for android. Comes with many great reviews and so much positive feedback. This one is universal for any instrument such as cello, bass, violin, piano and wind instruments. This one does feature ads though :(

Overall, based on what is there on the market for musicians; these are four different apps that have their pros and cons for Android or Iphone. I would highly recommend that any guitarist check out these apps.
