How To Play The Piano Without Feeling Pain?

Before I get started I just want to thank everyone for sending in their emails to me about some giveaway ideas for the blog. I just want to find a way to thank all of our readers and subscribers. Continue to send in those emails.

This is a very interesting question that was asked by one of our readers. The question is:

How can I play the piano or any other instrument without feeling any pain?

Well, first off pain is natural and you will start to feel tension in your hands whether you are hitting a drum or strumming a guitar or hitting a piano key. Your only human.

One of the things to recognize is that this maybe caused by stress and if you haven't played in years or at least the bare minimum of a couple of months this can happen.

Here are just some of the causes of stress that can cause pain in the long term:

-Playing for extended periods of time especially without a break
-Bad technique in terms of fingering**
-Taking an long holiday then just returning to practice
-Practicing last minute for a concert or recital or when your on a tight deadline
-Bad attitude towards practicing (not having fun)
-Critisim from your friends and family
-Bad posture

These are just some of the msot common problems that can cause stress that musicians typically face. However, it's different for every musician.

In order to prevent injury from happening here are some ideas:

-Warm up and cool down before and after practice
-Take frequent breaks if necessary
-Shake your fingers, fidget and stretch your arms to regain circulation in your body
-Practice good posture
-Time your practice sessions (my rule of thumb is 20-30 minutes with 5-7 minute breaks)

** If you are feeling pain in your fingers and it's consistantly hurting go an see a doctor

***As well, if you are having trouble with your fingering I would highly recommend that you look at Hanon Fingering lessons. Also, try practicing with finger weights.

Well, I hope this helps you out.
