Music Technology: Motif XF Tutorial For Sounds

New Today! Jan 19,2011

Ahh...Sorry for the late post but it has been hectic over the past couple of days. As promised I would post something special for the New Year. A lot of people have been asking me in emails about the Motif XF and a quick tutorial. Today, I am going to do a quick excerpt about the Motif. Have you gotten tired of the Motif sounds? Don't get me wrong its a great tool and Yamaha has done an excellent job in integrating the new technological advancements in the Motif line. One thing that hasn't changed is the Motif sounds especially the rhodes sounds. Wouldn't it be nice to make your Motif sound just like an actual rhodes piano? The rhodes series have been used in many different settings from jazz, gospel, funk, rock.

Recently I discovered somebody who found a way to make different kinds of neo sounds on the keyboard. He is an excellent keyboard player and has created a pack of motif sounds for the Motif XS/XF/ES series. His name is Jamal Hartwell. The sounds of the motif are awesome you can really have some fun with these sounds for example the rhodes settings are smooth and the feel so unique. When you mess around with the velocity of the sound you can get that touch and go feeling. The sound doesn't resonate for a long period of time. One suggestion that I would make is that you try different settings from your velocity curve to you cutoffs this will help you give a bigger picture of the different settings that you can have. There is also one for the roland mk-20 sensation sounds. So if you want have some fun in different sounds I would highly suggest these. The one thing is that you need to have ram installed on your keyboard it makes the process much smoother. I would recommend 1 GB of ram so that you can have the storage space.

The picture up above is from the "MKsensation" pack.
