A Life Lesson on Pacing Yourself

I love to workout and recently I have been to the gym quite a lot throughout the summer. One of my goals was to improve my level of fitness and become stronger. Sometimes when you want to reach your goal you try to speed up the process faster however this can sometimes be your downfall. I realized that when I tried to do this it was actually hurting me. There were times when I tried to put more then my weight and it caused some tension in my arms. (Luckly, I am fine don't worry) I learned a lot through this experience. These can also translate to lessons learned in life and in music as well.

1) Don't underestimate in anything that you do

One of the things is that when I went to the gym I saw people pulling more then their weight. People will say that it's easy however it's not the best option to assume. It may be harder than you think. Sometimes you may need to do your research. See what other people are doing and don't be afraid to ask questions.

2) Take your time and don't show off

As a musician, there are times when your playing and you want to pull every trick out of the book the first time around. By the next time, they are out of gas because they have used the best tricks the first time. I learned this when I tried to pull more than my weight and it wasn't the smartest thing.

Sometimes, you need to take a step back and add bit and pieces here and there. This goes music as well. Don't pull all your tricks off the shelf at one. Be humble and use most of it when needed.

I have seen when musicians are beasts on their instruments and when it comes to playing it a second time they have used all their tricks.

3)Quantity Time vs Quality Time

When I was at the gym this summer I got the workout that I wanted in less than 1 hour. There are people who can get what they need in 3 hours. It depends on what your needs are and what you want to accomplish. When you focus and be attentive you can get so much done in so little time. You need to be committed to act. When I learn a song I can learn it in 30 minutes to 1 hour depending. There are times when I spend 2-3 hours just learning a hit for song because I want to keep the integrity of the song exactly how it is played.

What are you looking for quality or quantity?

4)A Time for No Excuses (A Life Changing Moment)

There is a moment where you just want to be serious in what you want to accomplish. You don't take NO for an answer. You forget the excuses and the other things that are less important and commit to what you want to accomplish. Look at the CEO's and famous people; they got to where they are because they were focused and had their eye on the prize. Everyone can accomplish great things no matter what problems they have or the situations they are going through. It's all about being focused and getting serious with what you want to get done.

I learned a lot from this unique experience and it taught me a lot on taking the time to pace and learn more about what I can do.

I hope that this inspires you to become motivated, start fresh and accomplish great things in life.
